Madras Christian College grieves professor’s death

Professor had contributed substantially to the departments of Zoology and Entomology at MCC and Loyola college

ChennaiMadras Christian College (MCC) paid tribute to the legendry entomologist Professor T. Anantha Krishnan who passed away recently at the age of 90. He had contributed substantially to the departments of Zoology and Entomology at MCC and Loyola college.            
 
Having graduated with Zoology honors from Madras Christian College in 1946 he became a demonstrator and later temporary lecturer in zoology in MCC. He went on to become an assistant professor in Loyola college until 1998 during which time he held the position as professor and head founder and director of the Entomology Research Institute.
 
Dr R.W. Alexander Jesudasan, who had been closely associated with Anantha Krishnan from 1999-2009, said, “We used to organise discussion meetings on different themes. It used to be on molecular systematic, biodiversity and physicochemical, the resistance by plants to insects and so on. We used to get top-notch scientists and we used to update knowledge on the current trends.”
 
Recalling his association, he said that the professor was a strict disciplinarian who was very systematic in his planning. He would plan one year ahead for any event. He was also very good human being, loving, caring and a great orator and influenced a many students.
