Producer-turned-actor Udhayanidhi Stalin, who was hitherto seen playing the boy-next-door, will be portraying a serious role in his upcoming untitled movie. The official remake of the National Award winning Bollywood court room comedy drama Jolly LLB, will be directed by Ahmed, while Hansika, who played Udhay’s debut heroine in OKOK, will reprise Amrita Rao’s character from the original.
Talking about the film, Ahmed says, “You will see Udhayanidhi in a new avatar. So far, he has played the ‘happy go lucky guy’ in his earlier flicks. In this film, he plays a serious lawyer, which involves dialogue-oriented satire. Udhay is making an effort to ensure that he will do justice to the role. I believe with this film he will go to the next level as an actor. The movie is one big leap for him and will be a stepping stone in his career.”
He adds, “I am regionalising the script to some extent without spoiling the soul of the original. I will try my best to stay true to Jolly LLB.” Meanwhile Udhay, who seems to be excited about moving out of his comfort zone says, “This is a new experience for me. I am adhering to what my director says and hope to pull it off!” On teaming up with Hansika for the second time, he quips, “She is my lucky charm — Hansika worked with me in my debut film as an actor and the film was a huge hit. I hope the magic continues with this film as well”.
Ask him how Hansika agreed to play a role which was relatively a small one. He says, “She being a big heroine, Ahmed had developed her character a little more in romantic segments. We are starting the shoot in Chennai on August 27 and the director has decided to shoot the romantic portions first. Prakash Raj is also there in the first schedule. The movie starts in Pollachi and will conclude in the city.”
