Mumbai: The Vakola police is sifting through the CCTV camera footage from a luxury hotel in Santa Cruz (east) to get leads in the case where the son of a Member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh was threatened at knife point and looted of Rs 1.5 lakh by a woman from an escort service in Mumbai and her driver on Sunday night.

According to the Vakola police, complainant Mehar Singh Tanwar is the son of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kunwar Singh Tanwar from Amroha. The incident occurred at the Grand Hyatt hotel. Victim Tanwar called up the escort service after getting the phone number from the Internet. They wanted women to escort their guests for an in-house party. Details of the party are not clear.

The woman arrived with her driver in the car outside the hotel. After a brief talk, one of them flashed a knife at Mr Tanwar and demanded the money from him. A scared Mr Tanwar gave the money and the duo fled from the spot in their car. Mr Tanwar then called the police control room.

Confirming the above developments, senior police inspector of Vakola police station, Mahadev Wavale said, “We have recorded statements of the victim and a staff member of the hotel. We are checking the CCTV camera footage from the hotel.” The officer refused to mention the name of the escort service. An FIR has been registered under section 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code against the duo.

Speaking to The Asian Age over the phone Kunwar Singh Tanwar said, “My son has been dragged into the case. He has a business partner named Bhatia who runs a chain of food outlets in Mumbai and other cities. He is an NRI from London. He took my son there (Grand Hyatt). It is his fault. Only because we are famous and in power my son’s name got dragged into the matter,” said the MP. His son Mehar Tanwar, however, did not answer our phone calls.
