Hyderabad: AP employees have urged the government-appointed panel to take the parents’ nativity as the basis for according nativity status to their children. At a meeting with the committee led by R.P. Meena, political secretary, they made two suggestions: Take the parents’ nativity as the basis or leave it to the employee.

“You can make our children natives of AP on the basis of our nativity. You can add this factor to the Presidential Order and send the same to the Centre. If the President approves our action, it would have legality,” said APNGOs Association president P. Ashok Babu, AP Secretariat Employees Association chief U. Murali Krishna told the panel. The leaders opposed the abolition of the zonal system as suggested by finance minister Y. Ramakrishnudu.

“Revising the Article can only be done through Parliamentary approval. Disparities will crop up once we abolish the system. Amaravati is in zone-3 and people in that area may be at loss in Andhra and SVU regions. Similarly students and youth of other regions may not get equal opportunity. This is a ticklish issue. We told the panel in unambiguous terms that the existing zonal system should continue” Ashok Babu said.

“If you allow the staff to choose any of the 13 districts, it would be his native district and the same will be applicable to his children. This personal option can also be considered,” he said. “We will prepare draft guidelines and seek the opinion of everyone including the public. We can have two or three rounds of discussions over the subject,” Mr Meena told the staff leaders.
