Srinagar: A policeman and a 75-year-old physically challenged civilian were killed when two motorcycle-borne militants attacked a police post at the entrance of a Sufi shrine at Tujjar Sharief outside Sopore town in Jammu and Kashmir.

The civilian, identified as Abdur Rahim Lone, was on his wheelchair when a bullet hit his abdomen. Both he and Constable Syed Fayaz Ahmed of the 13th Battalion of Indian Reserve Police Force (IRPF) were rushed to the sub-district hospital at Sopore where doctors declared them brought dead, IGP (North Kashmir) Garib Das said.

The assailants ran away with the slain policeman’s INSAS rifle after the attack, witnesses said. Confirming it, Mr Das said that attack was on the police post and not at the shrine. No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
