Nizamabad: Senior Congress leaders have decided to go on a padayatra demanding to complete Dr B.R. Ambedkar Prana-hita-Chevella Lift Irrigation scheme work.
Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammad Ali Shabbir along with other senior leaders will undertake the padayatra soon at Binola village in Navipet mandal, where the LI scheme work started. Pranahita-Chevella LI scheme packages of 20, 21 and 22 in Nizamabad district aimed to provide water for around three lakh acres.
Former irrigation minister P. Sudarshan Reddy, who hails from Nizamabad district took an initiative for speeding up of LI work and released funds too.
According to official sources, around Rs 200 crore has been spent for the work in the district so far.
After TRS came to power, the Pranahita-Chevella LI works halted in Nizamabad district.
Reportedly, the construction companies were told to pack up their equipment as work will not be resumed in the near future.
In this context, Congress leaders have decided to expose the negligence of TRS government towards farmers issues. Former minister P. Sudarshan Reddy had already visited LI scheme work and demanded the government to complete the work at the earliest.
