Bengaluru: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has submitted a report on the cricket betting to the office of the Chief Secretary on Wednesday. The names of some senior police officials’ have been mentioned in the report.

Earlier Hubbali DCP Hanumanthrayappa and three constables were suspended after they were caught in a sting operation in June this year. The journalists had posed as bookies and approached the three constables. The constables demanded Rs 5 lakh from them to allow them to continue with the illegal betting racket.

Following the expose, the three constables and DCP Hanumantharaya (L&O) Hubbali was placed under suspension and the case was handed over to CID. The CID has reportedly found the involvement of few journalists in the illegal betting racket, who have reportedly taken money from the bookies to not publishing about the racket.

The CID is also looking into the role of Huballi-based journalists, both vernacular and English, who may have reportedly taken money from these bookies. It may be recalled that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had taken strong exception to the involvement of police officers in the betting scam.
