Airtel, Uber sign pact for free 4G Internet on the go

Airtel will also become Uber’s official telecom partner

New Delhi: US-based taxi-hailing app Uber has signed an agreement with telecom major Bharti Airtel to offer free high-speed Internet in its cabs across the country. Besides, Airtel will also become Uber’s official telecom partner across India by offering mobile, data and device plans to Uber driver-partners. The service, which has been launched in Mumbai, will soon be extended to other cities.

"As part of this partnership, Uber riders across India can now pay for their trips using Airtel’s mobile wallet service - Airtel Money. Additionally, Mumbaikars will now be the first in India to enjoy free high-speed Internet from Uber, powered by Airtel 4G. This service will soon be rolled out for Uber riders pan India," a joint statement said.

The statement said for a limited time, new Uber riders who top up their Airtel Money wallet will get a chance to earn up to Rs 500. Additionally, starting with Mumbai, every Uber vehicle in India will soon be equipped with free Wi-Fi, powered by Airtel 4G.
