BBMP polls: JD (S) candidate’s husband, brother assaulted
Latha alleged that the assault was carried out at the behest of ex-corporator of the ward, Thimmananjaiah
Bengaluru: The Rajagopala Nagar police on Thursday arrested three people, said to be Congress party workers, for allegedly assaulting a JD (S) candidate’s husband and her brother on Wednesday. The candidate, Latha, is contesting from Peenya Industrial Area (ward no 41).
Latha’s husband Ramesh and her brother C.J. Gopal were assaulted while carrying door-to-door campaign for the BBMP election, scheduled to be held on Saturday. The arrested have been identified as Chethan, Deve Gowda and Narsimha.
According to the police, the accused trio came to know that Ramesh, Gopal and other JD (S) workers were allegedly distributing sarees. They confronted Ramesh and Gopal and soon a fight broke out. The accused attacked Ramesh with clubs and iron rods, following which Ramesh sustained serious injuries. The police was alerted and they shifted Ramesh to a private hospital.
In her police complaint, JD (S) candidate Latha alleged that the assault was carried out on the behest of ex-corporator of the ward, Thimmananjaiah. Based on the complaint, the police carried out the arrests. JD(S) party workers staged a protest in front of the police station demanding action against the attackers.
Some Congress party workers have also approached the police and registered a complaint against Ramesh and C J Gopal for distributing sarees. Rajagopalanagar police have registered both the cases and begun investigation.
