Man attacks passers-by in Hyderabad
The attacker, a bank employee, said to be mentally ill
Hyderabad: A bank employee, said to be mentally deranged allegedly attacked passers-by with an iron rod, injuring two persons. A driver at the APFDC and another person suffered severe injuries. Police shifted him to the Institute of Mental Health, Erragadda on the orders of the Court. The accused was identified as P. Ramkumar.
Police said that Ramkumar is an employee of Dena bank and works in the general office clearing section. He is a native of Visakhapatnam and resides at Motinagar in Chappal bazaar.
On Thursday morning, he came on to the road carrying an iron rod. Near Gokul chat at Koti he started attacking passers-by. People ran from the spot, when they saw him brandishing the rod. Mohammed Shamiuddin, a driver at the AP Film Development Corporation suffered injuries on his head, while another person suffered injuries on his hand. A few others nabbed him and handed him over to the police.
Police registered a case of mental and ill health under the relevant sections and produced him before the court.
“The court directed to have him medically checked up at Osmania Hospital and ordered him to be shifted to the Institute of Mental Health at Erragadda,” said Sultan Bazaar inspector P. Shiva Shankar Rao.
Shamiuddin who suffered injuries on his head, was admitted to Osmania Hospital and was discharged after treatment, while details of the other persons are not known. The case is under investigation.
