Hyderabad: A gun-wielding gang of suspected robbers opened fire in Jubilee Hills on Thursday afternoon during a scuffle with policemen. A Metro Rail worker was injured in the incident.

Police nabbed three people and seized their firearms. The gang from Gulbarga was waiting at Road No. 36 to rob the manager of a BIG C Mobiles outlet, who was on his way to the bank with several lakhs of rupees in cash. However, a police team from the commissioner’s task force apprehended the robbers based on a tip-off.

The cops suspect that a few more members, most of them armed, are still in the city after giving them the slip. Special teams have been formed to catch them. Witnesses said that two people escaped from the spot on a Pulsar bike.

City police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said that two of the gang members and one of their aides were caught on the spot. “Our police team had information about the movement of the gang. So a team of 11 members followed them and caught them after a scuffle,” he said.
