GHMC fails to raze convention centre
GHMC had earlier demolished N-Convention Centre’s shed
Hyderabad: Except for a shed of the N-Convention hall facing the lake, nothing has been demolished either by the GHMC or the management despite a 2014 survey stating that the convention hall has encroached around 1.12 acre of FTL and 2 acre of buffer zone of Thammidi Kunta Lake, Madhapur.
In June 2014, the irrigation and revenue departments and GHMC had re-conducted a survey to identify the encroached area by the management after demolition notices were issued to N-Convention.
The management was given the freedom to carry out the demolition and as a result, only a shed has been removed though a hall and garden facing the Cherruvu falls in the encroached area (buffer zone).
Three surveys were conducted in the case. The first was issued by MRO Serilingampally, the second was prepared by Arvee Consultants hired by GHMC or HMDA and the third was carried out by the GHMC on June 28, 2014.
In all three, the lake was shown having three different FTLs . While estimates of surveys one and three are in same range of 29 acre, the one carried out by the private consultants puts it at 25.5 acre.
In the private survey, which was also put up on the HMDA website, the N-Convention Centre (NCC) was excluded from any encroachment unlike in the other two estimates.
N-Convention is built on 10 acres. As per the executive engineer (North Tank Division) the FTL area of Thammidi Kunta is 29.24 acre and the encroachments by N-Convention are around 1.12 acre in FTL and 2 acres in the buffer zone.
In the case of unauthorised buildings of Gokul land at Hafizpet, the municipal body had earlier stated that it would take up a detailed study and identify illegal constructions.
Concerned town planning officials were asked to initiate a survey and study these encroachments.
