Samsung brings the Galaxy S6 edge + in India, no Note 5 in sight
Samsung launched only the 32GB edge +, but did not confirm about the others
Samsung held a closed group event in Delhi and Mumbai, this week, to announce the next Galaxy smartphone in India. The Korean tech giant has sadly announced only the 32GB version of the Galaxy edge +, but did not confirm anything about the 64GB variant’s availability or pricing, promising that the 64GB devices will shortly be announced within a few months. Sadly, the Galaxy Note 5 also did not make an appearance in India too.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge + will be available in India only with a 32GB onboard storage for now and the price tag on the device is kept at Rs 57,900. Though the price tag seems to be a bit exorbitant, Samsung has tried to make the deal a little sweeter to its customers. Samsung has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge + will be bundled along with some more irresistible goodies.
Firstly, the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge +will be available in two colour variants—gold and silver. Bundled along with the smartphone is a Samsung wireless charging pad. Apart from this, Samsung has also thrown in a free one-time screen replacement (Rs 990 will be charged towards handling) within the warranty period and those who are on an Airtel networks can enjoy doubling their internet data for free. Lastly, to make the deal even better, Samsung is offering an 18-month EMI scheme.
Samsung Galaxy S6 edge + features a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display and protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on both the front and rear panel. The smartphone is powered by an Exynos 7420 chipset, featuring four 1.5GHz and four 2.1GHz processors working in tandem with a whopping 4GB of RAM and a MALI T760MP8 graphics processor. The cameras feature a 16MP sensor on the rear and a 5MP on the front. The device is capable of taking 4K videos, with HDR and optical image stabilization. The internal storage is 32GB and you get only around 25GB of storage for your personal files. Sadly, there is no storage expansion provision. The edge + is powered by a 3000mAh battery and runs Android Lollipop 5.1.x out of the box. We did notice something unusual—Samsung has removed the IR blaster from the edge + unlike the presence of the same on the Galaxy S6 Edge.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge + is now completely manufactured in India, but this does not seem to benefit the consumer as the price difference is almost negligible.
When asked about the availability of the 64GB version and the Galaxy Note 5 availability in India, Samsung stated that the two devices will take a while to come to the Indian market.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge + is a tad taller than the S6 Edge and has maintained a comfortable formfactor for single-handed use. The device measures 75.8mm wide and weighs 453g with a thickness of just 6.9mm. the edge + is a single SIM Android handset with 4G compatible networks, and is ready for the Indian market.
As compared to the S6 Edge, the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge + only differs in display size (5.1-inch vs 5.7-inch), RAM (3GB vs 4GB RAM), battery capacity and the missing IR blaster. The rest of the features are almost identical. Hence, if you are thinking of investing on the premium handset, but are either short on cash, or prefer a smaller sized handset, considering the S6 Edge is not a bad choice and you probably won’t miss much of the edge +’s features.
