Bengaluru: Breakfast at a popular local eatery could be one way of breaking into a BJP bastion. At least Chief Minister Siddaramaiah thinks so and Friday saw him driving to MTR (Mavalli Tiffin Rooms) near Lalbagh in South Bengaluru to dig into his favourite Rava Idly and Bisi Bele Bath.

Was this a last ditch effort to connect with south Bengaluru voters by presenting himself as the common man’s CM on poll eve after some surveys pointed to a Congress drubbing?

Interestingly MTR was the place where former CM S.M. Krishna used to have breakfast amidst common citizens once in a while when he was in power. Siddu made the best of the opportunity to dispel the feeling that the Congress was a divided house ahead of the polls after party veterans Mallikarjun Kharge and S.M. Krishna took potshots at his style of functioning.

On the barbs that he was no Devraj Urs-the champion of backward classes- Siddu replied, “Only Urs can match Urs, not Mr Siddaramaiah. It cannot happen.” He also dismissed reports of attempts being made to replace him as CM saying it was only a subject of conjecture in the media.
