Former red sanders smuggler lodges plea against cops
Renigunta: Based on a complaint of Siva, who was a red sander operative smuggling logs to other states earlier, but who now is leading a normal life, a FIR was registered against a SI, head constable and a constable under Sections 342 (illegal detention), 384 (extortion) in Renigunta police station on Friday.
According to urban SP Gopinath Jetti, Siva who is living in Renigunta was a red sanders operative and is now operating an auto for his livelihood. Vadamalapeta head constable Kumar, constable Chinababu took Siva to the police station a month ago on the pretext of an inquiry.
At the behest of SI Rajasekhar, Siva was taken to a room by the HC and constable and forcibly detained. The trio including the SI tortured him brutally for money and threatened to bring him to book under the PD Act if he did not give Rs 5 lakh.
Somehow, the frightened Siva arranged money by borrowing from his friends and handed it over to the SI through constable Chinababu. Siva was released from captivity at that time. Recently for 10 days, the trio again began intimidating him to give another Rs 5 lakh otherwise he would be booked under anti-smuggling Acts.
Vexed with the police attitude, Siva approached Renigunta DSP Nanjundappa, who in turn, gave information to urban SP Jetti and registered a FIR against the SI, head constable and constable on the direction of SP.
Renigunta police have arrested head constable Kumar, constable Chinababu, except SI Rajasekhar Reddy, as he was absconding. The arrested police personnel were produced in court. The Renigunta police have started a hunt to nab SI Rajasekhar Reddy who, according sources, is trying for anticipatory bail.
