Local court summons Mulayam Singh Yadav over gangrape remarks
The summons has been issued under Sections 3 and 4
Lucknow: A local court in Mahoba district has taken suo moto cognisance of the remarks made by Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on gangrape and has issued summons to the SP leader. Mr Yadav had recently courted controversy by saying that ‘a rape by four people is not practically possible’. In the order, the magistrate Ankit Goyal at the Civil Court (junior division) in Mahoba district, has summoned the SP chief for a hearing in the case on September 16. The summons has been issued under Sections 3 and 4 of Indecent Representation of Women Prohibition Act, 1956 and Sections 504/505/509/116 of the Indian Penal Code.
The magistrate said that he has taken suo moto cognisance of media reports (both print and electronic) in the case. The SP chief had said, “One person commits a rape and four are named in the complaint. Is that even possible?”
