Probe ordered into Gulf sex racket
The court dismissed a petition filed by a victim in the Sharjah sex racket case
Kochi: Kerala High Court on Friday asked the Union Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs to conduct a detailed inquiry into the complaints of sexual abuse of women working in Gulf countries and stop the crime.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice A.M. Shaffique also directed the ministry and other departments engaged in the emigration duties in various airports and seaports to adhere to the norms and ensure that no women trafficking takes place.
The court dismissed a petition filed by a victim in the Sharjah sex racket case seeking a directive to conduct a proper investigation into the case.
According to her, she was brutally tortured and abused while working in Dubai. She alleged that a racket involving agents was sending women abroad promising jobs.
The court pointed out that as the police had investigated the case and filed a chargesheet, any further direction was not required.
