Stronger law must to fight cyber crimes: P Sathasivam
Cyber attacks have the potential to disrupt the economic security of the country, he said
KOCHI: The law and policing should be further strengthened to meet the challenges posed by cyber crimes, Governor P Sathasivam said here on Friday.
Speaking after inaugurating the valedictory function of COCON-2015, an international conference on cyber security, Sathasivam said that cyber crimes in the country recorded a growth of 107 per cent last year.
“The number of cyber crimes will touch three lakh by this year,” he said. Efficient policing and strengthening of the law are the way to counter cyber crimes, the governor said.
Although the government had brought an IT Act in 2000, confusion persists in areas such as privacy, territorial jurisdiction and intellectual property, he said.
Cyber attacks have the potential to disrupt the economic security of the country, he said, and added that the IT revolution has helped bring in great changes in the country.
“But, criminals are also growing because of the opportunities opened up by the IT field,” he said. The two-day conference attended by delegates from the country and abroad ended here on Friday.
