ASI orders probe into Taj Mahal’s chandelier crash
The incident took place at a time when there were no tourists inside
Lucknow: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has ordered a probe into the crashing of a chandelier in the Taj Mahal.
The six-foot high and four- foot wide chandelier that was gifted by Lord Curzon and installed at the main gate of the monument had crashed down on Wednesday evening. The incident took place at a time when there were no tourists inside. The inquiry into the incident will be conducted by ASI’s superintending archaeologist, Bhuvan Vikram Singh. Mr Singh said that the decision to fix the chandelier would be taken only after carefully examining its structure and its present state. Tourist guides, meanwhile, blame the ASI for neglecting he monument and its artifacts and claim that the chandelier crashed due to ‘aging and wear and tear’. Meanwhile, tourists visiting the Taj Mahal at night would soon be able to buy tickets online till 3 pm of the day of their visit, instead of booking in advance. A proposal has already been cleared and an order would soon be issued, Union minister of State for Tourism Mahesh Sharma said.
