Islamic scholars, Jamath representatives meet in Chennai today to fight against terror
The objective of the conference is to educate people about the dangers of Wahabi radicalism

Chennai: In a first of its kind conference, Islamic scholars, representatives of various Muslim jamaths, academicians and politicians will convene in Chennai under the banner Muslims United Against Terror (MUAT) on Sunday.
The meet aims at evolving strategies to fight terror. Muslims and other intellects have been invited to work on strategies and deal the sensitive issue which is the need of the hour, Syed Ali Akbar, organiser, Ahle Sunnath Wal Jamaath’s Federation, told Deccan Chronicle.
“The objective of the conference is to educate people about the dangers of Wahabi radicalism and to foster national coalition against international wahabi terrorism. The event will also have sessions like anatomy of terrorism, crisis of Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), Fall of Syria — catastrophic consequences and wahabis — anti thesis of Islam”, said Akbar.
The convention will also expose the wahabi ideology and their terrorism as Un-Islamic and for the purpose intellects mostly from the Muslim community along with other religious groups have been invited. The first conference will be held among a select group and based on the resolutions and recommendations passed in the conference, our next course of action will be taken up, said Akbar.
Police, advocates, journalists and academicians have also been invited to join the conference so that more ideas to curb extremism can be formulated. Besides issues related to police approach towards minorities will also be discussed as the intention of the convention is to develop national integration at grassroots, organisers said. There is a need for paradigm shift in South Asian states and there has to be more orientation for the general public.
The conference will discuss terror issues at national and international levels, the organisers said. Government chief khazi Dr Mufti Salaludeen Mohammed Ayub Al Azhari and secretary general of All India Sunni Jammiyathul Ulama A.P. Aboobecker Ahmed, will inaugurate the event. Former head of military intelligence, Col. Hariharan, defence expert S.R. Niranhan and professors in political science and defence will deliver lectures, the organisers said.
