Nilambur bids adieu to Thansi Basheer

KOZHIKODE: A pall of gloom descended on Vazhikadavu, near Nilambur in Malappuram District, when the body of 20-year-old Thansi Basheer was kept for the public to pay homage.
Hundreds including political leaders and her college mates at the College of Engineering, Thiruvanathapuram arrived at Thansi’s residence for a last glimpse before her burial.
Thansi, a fifth semester CET student, succumbed to death on Thursday after she was mowed down by an open jeep which was occupied by the boys of the college during the Onam celebrations at the Men’s hostel of CET.
It was on Friday night that Thansi’s body was brought to her native place after the postmortem at Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram.
Thansi’s father Basheer and mother Thanuja who were in Thiruvananthapuram after getting a call from the college authorities reached their home on Friday.
Power Minister Aryadan Muhammed, CPM Leaders TK Hamsa, M Swaraj, KPCC Secretary VV Prakash and Nilambur Muncipal Chairman Aryadan Shoukath and many other political leaders on Saturday paid homage to Thansi. Her body was buried at Manimulli Valiya Jumamasjid.
