Hyderabad: Four members of a family died in a fire in the wee hours of Sunday. The fire broke out when the family was sleeping. Gopal and Jayamma from Kesampet shifted to Shadnagar a few years ago along with their five children and was staying at a rented house on Patel Road. Gopal owns two trucks. On Saturday night he went to deliver a load at Timmapur. The family slept after he left for Timmapur.

“Suddenly at around 3 am fire broke out in the house and Jayamma and two kids were burnt alive,” said Nagarkurnool DSP Goverdhan. Jayamma, Chitti and Charan died on the spot while Niharika succumbed in hospital. Another child Bhasker who slept near the door woke up due to the heat, ran out and raised an alarm. Locals rushed to the spot and tried to rescue them in vain. Police registered a case. “We are investigating if petrol or diesel stored at home is the cause of the fire or whether it happened due to an electric short circuit,” the DSP said.
