Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao on Sunday offered floral tributes to Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu, the first chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, on his birth anniversary in Hyderabad on Sunday. He garlanded the statue of Andhra Kesari near Ravindra Bharathi. However, the Telangana state government did not pay tributes to Panthulu.
AP is celebrating Andhra Kesari’s birth anniversary as a state festival. The government has also issued orders to all district collectors to celebrate Prakasam Panthulu’s Jayanti (birth anniversary) in a befitting manner following which it was celebrated across the state on Sunday. It was celebrated even in Chennai with TN Governor K. Rosaiah being the chief guest on the occasion and a couple of MLAs from AP attending the programme.
The AP chief secretary said Panthulu was a great freedom fighter and a real inspiration for the people of Andhra Pradesh and there the present generation can learn a lot from his life and works.
Panthulu was the editor of a newspaper, Swarajya, ran a Khadi production centre and a National School. The birth anniversary of Panthulu should be celebrated as ‘Grama Swarajya Dinam’, requested Dr C.G.K. Murthy, chairman and Tanguturi Sriram general secretary of Prakasam Institute of Development Studies.
