Twin cities Vijayawada and Amaravati plans to be prepared soon
Plan to be designed under CM’s supervision
Vijayawada: While the master plan for capital city Amaravati has already been finalised, the twin city plan will be designed and finalised soon under the supervision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The idea behind the twin city plan is to develop the city on par with capital city.
As per plan, CM N. Chandrababu Naidu and state government officials, including CRDA and its planners, will chalk out a plan similar to that of the new capital city Amaravati. Works related to roads, drains, flyovers, water supply, greenery, canals beautification projects, Metro, canal navigation and others will be finalised soon.
According to sources, Mr Naidu is keen on developing the city in lines with Amaravati. The government is mulling over conducting meetings with officials, local legislators and other parties concerned under the supervision of the CM within the next few days.
While the state government has already proposed Metro rail project, canal beautification projects, flyovers at Durga temple and Benz Circle, Machilipatnam-Vijayawada highway expansion and storm water project for the city, public still faces inconvenience from the increasing traffic and water-logging on roads in rainy season. Besides, the poor drainage system has also become a nightmare for people.
The state government would focus on greenery and beatification projects along with traffic and drainage problems first. Officials have prepared plans and schemes but their implementation is a major challenge owing to the lack of funds facing the state government.
In this backdrop, the proposed meeting led by the CM would focus on immediate solutions and frequent follow up on proposed projects, said a CRDA official on condition of anonymity. The official added that higher authorities have directed local authorities to take up steps to expand roads and improve sanitation conditions in the city.
