Tertiary cancer plan to open in September
The delay in the fund transfer has hit its commencement
KOZHIKODE: The tertiary cancer centre scheme at the Medical College Hospital (MCH) here is all set for launch next month.
The state government order handing over the first installment of the Rs 44.5-crore fund has reached here.
“We will get Rs 25.03 crore soon. It’ll be used for purchase of equipment and construction activities under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diab-etes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) of the Union ministry of health and family welfare,” said MCH principal Dr P.V. Narayanan.
The tendering process for the purchase of the equipment has already been completed. The tender for the construction will be floated on September 10.
The delay in the fund transfer has hit its commencement. Though the state had transferred the first installment on March 30, it cannot be used on the financial year end. Thus, the fund was returned and kept in the e-ledger.
It was not handed over in the new financial year even after several reminders from MCH authorities. The fund was for high-energy linear accelerator (Rs 17 crore), two modular theatres (Rs 2 crore each), CT scan simulator (Rs 6 crore) and SPECT gamma camera (Rs 4 crore).
Of the Rs 44.5 crore set aside for the scheme, the state has to bear 33.33 per cent (Rs 8.34 crore).
The centre will release the rest only after receiving the utilisation certificate of the first installment. According to MCI guidelines, September is the final month to complete the work using the first payment.
