ChennaiEven as the father of a 17-year-old girl is struggling to register a complaint that his daughter had been raped, the accused has filed an anticipatory bail petition in a city court.
The case related to a girl who was reportedly having a love affair with S. Arunkumar, of Kodungaiyur. She became pregnant.

After coming to know of this, her father approached Kodungaiyur police station on August 21 and filed a complaint alleging that Arunkumar had raped his daughter and sought action against him.

Instead of registering an FIR against Arunkumar, the police remained silent. The police had not taken the girl to a nearby Magistrate and sent her and accused to hospital for medical test.

Two days later, they handed over a CSR to her father. Speaking about the lackadaisical attitude of police in dealing with a grave crime, Jayanthy Mathivanan, former additional public prosecutor, Mahila Court, said police failed to consider the plight of the victim, who is already pregnant. The police had not produced her before a nearest magistrate and not sent her for medical test The police had not obtained a statement from the victim in the presence of woman police. The cops had also not sent the accused for medical test.

A large number of police personnel were not familiar with Pocso Act. Meanwhile, Arunkumar filed an anticipatory bail petition before principal sessions court. The judge N. Authinathan.on Tuesday directed city public prosecutor, M.L.Jegan, to file reply and adjourned the matter to August 28.
