Srikakulam: Mild tremors were felt in several parts of Srikakulam district in the early hours of Wednesday. The tremors were experienced for about 10 seconds in Palasa, Kanchili, Sompeta, Mandasa and Haripuram Mandals of the district. No casualty or property damage was reported.

As the buildings and the furniture shook, the panicky locals came out of their homes for a few hours.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, M. Raja Babu of Mandasa said, “I felt something wrong when the ground beneath my feet shook for a while at about 7:30 in the morning. Hence, I came onto the road immediately with my wife and children. But luckily there was no damage to the house, life or the things. My friends and relatives from the neighbouring villages and Mandals also informed of the same.”

"The tremors were very mild, with an intensity of 3.5 on the Richter scale. There is no cause for panic, there is no danger," an official of disaster management department said.

Though no casualty or damage was reported, District Collector Dr P Laxminarasimham alerted local administration and instructed the officials to take necessary measures immediately in the event of any untoward incident.
