Much ado about Premam effect for nothing
Students say that there was no Premam effect in their celebrations as alleged by the media and authorities
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Much has been said and shown about Premam — one of the biggest Malay-alam blockbusters released this year. But, the whole Premam effect created by a frantic media has not gone down well with youngsters.
The recent controversial Onam celebration held at IHRD College in Adoor was in the eye of a storm and was attacked by media and was stamped as the ‘Premam effect’. Interestingly, the Onam celebration was inspired by Jayasurya’s character in Aadu Oru Bheekarajeeviyanu — which did not do well at the box office.
The students donned the look of Pappan Shaji, the character of Jayasurya in Aadu Oru Bheekarajeeviyanu which had no similarity with Premam’s George (played by Nivin Pauly).
Students say that there was no Premam effect in their celebrations as alleged by the media and authorities.
“Our dress code had nothing to do with Premam and we wonder why the media is linking everything with that movie. The costume was similar to that of Jayasurya in the movie Aadu Oru Bheekarajeeviyanu. But the media and police authorities are linking this with Premam,” said a fourth year student of IHRD.
Another fourth year student Sreeram V. said that every celebration cannot be painted as the Premam effect. “Every year we plan something like this and we have dress codes for such celebrations. Last year we organised similar celebrations and that time the media covered it in a very good way. But this year, the media has gone overboard — they covered it in a very bad light in the backdrop of the CET incident,” said Sreeram.
Another fourth year student of IHRD, said films could not be blamed for unfortunate incidents. “Movies show both good and bad things and it’s the viewer’s choice whether to get influenced by it or not. But it is really foolish to blame a movie when something goes wrong,” the student said.
