Steroids found in fairness cream
The Indian Dermatology Association swung into action and they requested the drug controller to test the product
Hyderabad: Pearl Whitening Fairness Cream a skin whitening cream was being aggressively marketed in the city in the last five years and is found to have steroids according to tests conducted by the Drug Controller of Telangana.
Dr Rajetha Damishetty of the Indian Dermatology Association explained, “The cream is available for Rs 1,800 per pack. It was being aggressively advertised on the television which raised doubts about its contents. It was being marketed as a “vitamin cream” without “harmful chemicals” for “fairness”, tan, wrinkles, pimples, marks and even under eye dark circles. The inappropriate use of steroids can cause eye problems too.”
The Indian Dermatology Association swung into action and they requested the drug controller to test the product.
The Drug Controller Tested the product under the Topical Steroid Abuse Act and registered a case in the court. Action has also been taken against the office of the distributor in Hyderguda.
