Hyderabad: The contract employees of Andhra Pradesh State Aids Control Society are upset that after working for 15 years to prevent AIDS, they are now not being considered in the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act.

A protest was held by the employees outside the office on Wednesday afternoon. Fifty-seven employees are affected because their service of 15 years is not being considered by the government.

The government of India in its letter to the health secretaries of both the states have agreed to bifurcate permanent employees but contract employees are to be dealt with according to the needs of the programme.

A senior officer said, “We have been driving the programme in districts since the last few years and now whether our service is required or not will be considered. If we are not working then who will work,” “The government can’t just push the contract officers aside. They must consider us and give us due positions.” he added.
