Bengaluru: Vehicle movement on the Old Airport Road was thrown out of gear for over five hours during peak hours due to BBMP’s cleaning of drains on Wednesday morning. The traffic piled up on the four-kilometre stretch, starting from HAL police station till Indiranagar flyover.

Motorists struggled to reach office and their destination. A senior police officer told this newspaper, “The BBMP contractor was carrying out cleaning work of drains situated near Diamond District, which led to the traffic hold-up. The work was taken-up after 10 am, which is during peak hours. As the trash from the drain was lying on the side of the road, vehicular movement got disrupted for over four hours.”

“Police have directed the concerned contractor to stop the work and do the weekends,” he added.
