BENGALURU: Constitutional reservation of 50 per cent for women in BBMP council may be a welcome move, but the BBMP council staff is now worried that there may not be enough room in the visitors gallery to accommodate their husbands! As many as 100 women corporators have been elected to the newly formed BBMP council at the recently held polls.

According to BBMP sources, the council building was designed to accommodate 100 corporators and gallery was also designed to cater to the proportionate number of supporters. But, when BBMP was formed in 2007, the number of corporators increased to 198.

The BBMP council building was altered to accommodate increased number of corporators, but the gallery was untouched. Since a large number of women corporators will be attending the council sessions, their spouses and supporters too will be accompanying them. There is no scope for the BBMP to expand the council building, said sources.
