Thiruvananthapuram: MCH nurses seek withdrawal of action against colleague
More than 150 nurses participated in the agitation
Thiruvananthapuram: Nursing staff of Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital went on a strike on Wednesday demanding withdrawal of disciplinary action initiated against the head nurse in connection with the Onam celebrations held in B operation theatre on August 22.
The nurses took out a march to medical college principal's office, held a demonstration and then staged a dharna in front of Casualty wing for nearly two hours. More than 150 nurses participated in the agitation which had exempted essential medical services including casualty and operation theatres.
Nurses association leaders threatened to intensify the agitation if the transfer order against head nurse of operation theatre is not withdrawn. They said Onam celebrations were organised near the operation theatre with the knowledge of higher authorities and hospital superintendent had even savoured Onasadya along with other officials. But now the entire blame has been put on nurse who is not only deplorable but also totally unacceptable.
The head nurse was transferred following an inquiry ordered by health secretary and show cause notice was also issued to the head of the anaesthesia department.
