For actor Vishnu, who rose to fame with serials like Kana Kaanum Kalangal and Office on Vijay TV, it has been a slow and steady journey, where he chose not to be confined to the image of somebody who does only soaps. “What I am today is because of Pradeep Milroy Peter, programming head, Vijay TV. When I completed my post-graduation, I approached him for a presentation regarding TRPs. He was impressed with me, and I eventually joined the channel as a programme producer. I got into acting slowly,” Vishnu tells us and quickly adds, he doesn’t have any plans to do more serials. Ask him why, he says, he has higher aspirations. “I have always wanted to become a big screen actor and have no intention to shift back to acting in serials. I had been getting offers to act in serials, but I didn’t accept them because cinema has always been my priority. And I am a huge fan of Kamal Haasan. I entered TV industry to get a basic knowledge of how things work and I guess there’s nothing wrong in making TV as a launch pad for my further projects in cinema,” smiles Vishnu.
“Office was well-received by the family audiences and it had a convincing script as well. I don’t think I’ll do another serial but I am already a part of couple of films. I am waiting for my break on the big screen,” says Vishnu, who plays a lead in a film titled Ivan Yaar Endru Therigiradha. So, does it mean that he has put an end to his television career? “Oh, no. Take Ma Ka Pa Anand for instance. He acts in movies and as well as anchors shows. I have the conviction to experiment and take risks,” Vishnu grins. But it looks like he keeps his options open and says, he’s interested to host shows like Sivakarthikeyan. “There are a very few successful people like Siva, who made it big in the film industry.
Any media personality has to adapt to the medium. If not, he will be pushed out and replaced by somebody else. I look up to my seniors, because they have made it big on their own merit. If someone gives me opportunities to host an interesting show. I would definitely consider it. I am happy that I am following suit,” signs off Vishnu.
