Sheena Bora case: I slept through the murder, claims Sanjeev Khanna
Indrani Mukerjea confessed but said Khanna, driver strangled Sheena
Mumbai: To reconstruct the sequence of events in the Sheena Bora murder case, the three accused — Indrani Mukerjea, her driver Shyam Rai and her second husband Sanjeev Khanna — were made to confront each other and were later taken to some undisclosed locations in Mumbai where they had allegedly been on the day.
Meanwhile, a magistrate court in Bandra on Friday remanded Mr Khanna to police custody till Monday. A police source said a lot of information came out when the accused were made to confront each other. They passed the buck on to each other about who strangled Sheena.
The driver said a source is playing a “bechara” who gave in to Ms Indrani’s orders, as she also lured him with a huge sum that he could have never earned through rightful means.
Police sources also said that Mr Rai had got himself a piece of property in his village in north India from the money given by Ms Mukerjea for the murder. However, the driver, who confessed to his involvement, said that he did not strangle Sheena. Mr Khanna, too, claims he did not strangle her and fell asleep. Ms Mukerjea confessed to her role in the crime but said Mr Khanna and Mr Rai strangled Sheena.
After the confrontation, the police is said to have taken the trio to find out where they had taken the suitcase from which Sheena’s body was dumped and the exact area from where she was kidnapped.
Sources said that the investigators are still hoping to get some clues from Ms Mukerjea’s Worli residence and the garage where Sheena’s body was kept in a car for a day. Mr Khanna also visited Mumbai every two months and stayed at the hotel Hill Top, from where the police is hoping to gather more evidence.
A police source said it has a clear idea of what the possible motive could be.
