Walkathon to spread cancer awareness
A meeting will be held prior to its launch of the walkathon while the participants can interact with Sai Pallavi and Sreesanth at its end
KOCHI: At 7 am on September 6, cancer survivors and morning walkers in the city will converge at the DH Ground. School and college students, members of various clubs, NCC and Student Police cadets will join them to hold a three and a half kilometre walkathon to spread awareness on fighting cancer.
They will be led by stars of the day like actor Sai Pallavi, cricketer Srees-anth, mayor Tony Chammany, Hibi Eden MLA and K.V. Thomas MP.
Canserve Charitable Society is organising the event titled ‘Walk with Canserve’ in league with Cochin Corporation with the motto ‘Be the Cause for the Change’.
It will wind its way to Gandhi Square, Maharaja’s College, Law College and St Teresa’s College to return to the DH Ground.
A meeting will be held prior to its launch of the walkathon while the participants can interact with Sai Pallavi and Sreesanth at its end.
“Sai Pallavi being an MBBS student has shown a keen interest in being part of the event. Sreesanth also is participating for a cause in a major way on his return. There will be awards for teams coming out with best presentations in the walkathon that will be held as per international standards,” said Sethuraj Kadaikal, a volunteer of Canserve.
“In the past few months, several cancer patients approached us at the end stage of the disease and then we thought of raising the awareness on the disease which is abysmally low now. People do not go for a yearly health check-up and ignore mild ailments that are indicative of cancer. So it is high time we raised awareness on the disease and hence we are conducting the walkathon to raise funds also through sponsorships and donations,” said Suja Nair, a member of Canserve.
