Woman judge suspended for corruption

Chennai: A woman judicial magistrate has been placed under suspension on alleged serious corruption charges. The Registrar-General, Madras high court, Pon. Kalaiyarasan, placed judicial magistrate, Tiruvottiyur in Tiruvallur district, D. Jayasuriya, under suspension on Friday.
Jayasuriya had been serving there for the last two years. Based on a recommendation of the registry, a team led by principal district judge, Tiruvallur, G. Jayachandiran, conducted a probe and found there was prima facie in the allegations.
The team also noted that the magistrate had not maintained judicial records properly and failed to deposit fine amounts collected in the treasury. The district judge submitted the report recently. After scrutinising the report, the Registry placed her under suspension. Meanwhile, judicial magistrate at Poonamallee has been made in-charge of the Tiruvottiyur court.
