Come Friday, Mysore will get a dose of fashion and style. All eyes are on Jayanthi Ballal, who is leaving no stone unturned to make Mysore Fashion Week a huge success. Red carpets are being rolled at The Country Inn & Suites for Season 2 of the three-day fashion extravaganza (September 4-6) that promises to be bigger and better. The impressive list of fashion designers includes Deepali Shah, Reshma Kunhi, Maheshwari Ayyappan, Saroj Jalan, Dream Zone, Ashok Maanay, Robert Naorem, Roopa Gangadhar, Jayasubeishaa S, Yogesh Chaudhary, Mohan Gowda, Almaz Syed, Sanjukta Dutta, Pinky Kanchela and Mona Shroff. Showstoppers Soha Ali Khan, Vidyuth Jamwal, Amala Paul, Sanjanna and Parul Yadav will be scorching the ramp for these designers.
Talking of what’s in store this weekend, Jayanthi of Needle Works, who has been dressing fashionistas in Mysore and across Karnataka states, “I’m a fashion design student from Bengaluru and apart from designing, I have always kept myself updated on the latest trends and attend a lot of fashion weeks across the country. There were no other designers working on the trend of reviving old Kanjeevaram sarees when I started out many years back. My collection this year is traditional with a slightly contemporary look. Since PETA is on board, I’ve improvised on the animal welfare theme. Showstopper for my collection, actor Soha Ali Khan will release caged animals on the ramp. I’m also known for my innovative choli designs. Also we have paired each look with stunning antique jewellery pieces from C Krishniah Chetty & Sons that are reminiscent of the golden days. Actor JK will be wearing the Ganda Berunda that Mysore is known for. Most of my sarees are essentially Kanjeevaram silks in bright colours like mustards, fuchsia, yellows and reds. These sarees are timeless and some even have embroidery, net and lace.”
Choreographers Achla Sachdev, Sreedhar MS and Snehal Igoor are rehearsing with some of the top models of the likes of Candice Pinto, Alesia Raut, Deepti Gujral, Archana Akhil Kumar, Parul Duggal, Dayana Erappa, Mitali Rannorey, Jackie B and others. “I started working on making arrangements from the beginning of this year. It’s been challenging as a lot of sponsors hesitate to come to tier-2 cities. Mysore has a lot of potential for growth and so many software firms are also coming to the city. Besides, it’s a popular tourist destination and also connects to other popular hotspots. This year, we’re flooded with people who want invites for all the three days and besides Mysore and Bengaluru, many people from Hassan, Chickmagalur and Mangaluru are also showing keen interest in coming for the event. Snehal Igoor and Ovez Bakshi have helped me put the show together and on the last day there will be an after party with DJ Anoop and Tanmay at the console.”
