BengaluruThe police are most likely to hand over the investigation of the rape case filed against Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami, the seer of Sri Ramachandrapura Math, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as it has already probed a case filed against the seer last year.

Police sources said that senior officers were thinking of handing over the case to the CID. “As Ram Katha singer Premalatha’s case was handed over to the CID and it has completed the probe, it is likely that even the case filed on Saturday would be handed over to the CID. As the CID officials have already gathered several information during the probe, it would be easy for them to probe this case too,” an official said.

The official said that the CID officials had also questioned the 24-year-old woman, who filed the complaint on Saturday, while they were probing the case filed by Premalatha. “They had questioned the woman a few times as part of the probe. Not only her, the staff of all the branches of the Math were questioned by the CID,” the official added.

The 24-year-old complainant, who hails from Uttara Kannada district, was subjected to medical test at KIMS Hospital on Sunday. The police have already recorded her statement and would also issue notice to the seer directing him to appear before the investigators, the police said.

The woman had filed a complaint with the Girinagar police on Saturday, alleging that the seer had sexually assaulted her several times between 2006 and 2012, when she was staying in the Math’s hostel in Hosanagar.
