She embraced her first love — dancing at the age of seven, and when she hit her teens, she was already performing on stage at the highest level across the globe. Kruthika Jayakumar, who is presently pursuing her first year graduation in journalism at Mount Carmel College spoke exclusively to Bengaluru Chronicle about her accidental journey into films after making her debut in the Telugu film Drushyam alongside Victory Venkatesh playing an important supporting role. The passionate dancer-turned-actress is now busy shooting for her debut Kannada movie Boxer directed by the talented Preetam Gubbi.
“I never dreamt of becoming an actress nor did anyone in my family have any such connection. Dance has been my only passion in life. It was during one of my performances on stage, I was approached for the film. Though, I was not so serious, I gave the audition and was selected,” says Kruthika, who has recently signed another Telugu movie.
Born and brought up in Bengaluru, Kruthika did her schooling at Clarence High School and her PUC at CMR National PU College. Currently pursuing journalism, she reveals that acting happened to her by accident and her experience as a dancer helped her to face the lens.
“I was a science student in my plus two but I took journalism as I had an interest in writing. Moreover, it also helped me pursue an acting career. I could focus on both — studies and acting. I love to write whenever I am off shooting,” she adds.
She feels that an individual dance artiste and shooting for films are very similar. “Since I was performing Bharatanatyam, and then took up acting, my lifestyle has been more or less the same as it involved travelling, staying away from home and being in the public eye. My mother has been a source of great support, and has had to stay away from home — it is hard to cope with that especially when my father and elder brother had to manage by themselves in her absence.”
Kruthika almost rejected Kannada film Boxer as she felt apprehensive about moving from one industry to another, and it was only after Preetam Gubbi convinced her to listen to the story that she agreed.
“When I first heard the storyline, I was happy, and despite my apprehensions, it seemed to be a film that offered everything an actor desires. It has scope to perform and the right balance of emotions. It is a wonderful role. The movie has the right blend of action and love drama, which is a rarity in Sandalwood. It is a romance laced with an action tone, and I hope that the audience will accept such a unique experiment,” adds
Kruthika who makes her debut alongside the talented Dhananjay Kumar, who is on a roll in Sandalwood with a series of different projects lined up for release in 2015 and 2016. She loves her ordinary girl-next-door life and does not want to miss out on college. “I go to college on my two-wheeler, bunk classes, go out with friends. I try and watch at least a movie a day. I am determined to continue my dancing even after getting into films,” the lady Boxer signs off.
