Hyderabad: Former government whip and MLA Turpu Jayaprakash Reddy (aka Jaggareddy) joined the Congress on Monday in the presence of TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and AICC secretary R.C. Kuntia at a function held at Gandhi Bhavan here.

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, who was supposed to participate in Monday’s function, however, could not make it due to a family problem and had to leave for the United States.

Mr Jaggareddy, a strong leader from Sangareddy, started his political innings with the BJP. Since then he has shifted to the TRS, the Congress, the BJP again and is now back with the Congress.

He had earlier resigned from the Congress after unsuccessfully contesting the Sangareddy Assembly polls in the 2014 general elections, and had joined the BJP to contest as a party candidate supported by the TDP in the Medak Lok Sabha by-polls.

However, he had lost. Admitting his mistake of quitting the Congress and joining the BJP, Mr Jaggareddy said, “I did not know why I joined the BJP last year… it was a big mistake.”
