VIJAYAWADA: Uncertainty over land acquisition seems to have affected the road widening works on the Autonagar- Ramavarap-padu stretch, as residents are unwilling to give up their land.
The Autonagar- Ramavarappadu stretch, once widened, can clear traffic hassles when the flyover works at Kanaka Durga temple begins. It can also act as an alternative route to city outskirts, especially during the upcoming Krishna Pushkaralu.
Also, vehicles coming from Hyderabad through NH 9 can reach Machilipatnam without adding up to the city's traffic by entering BRTS road at Satyanarapuram and then the inner ring road at Ramavarappadu.
The new road, covering a distance of 2 km, can divert heavy vehicles from Hyderabad at Autonagar without disturbing the city traffic.
“Even after counselling's by Municipal commissioner, residents are still reluctant about land acquisition for the widening works. This could lead to a delay in the works,” said Mayor Koneru Sreedhar.
“The new proposed road would be 100 feet wide,” said a resident K Lakshmi Narayana, Ramavarappadu village.
Meanwhile, with the date of stone laying for the flyover at Kanakadurga temple fast approaching, officials seem to be in a hurry for getting more roads to clear the heavy traffic from all the sides in the city.
