Coimbatore: A 26-year-old college student from Sudan is in a soup for giving a false police complaint of molestation at her house in Selvapuram on Tuesday early morning.

Police said the Sudanese girl, studying second year IT in a private college and staying in a rented house at Periyar Nagar in Telungupalayam, had informed the Selvapuram police that she was molested by an unidentified man.

In her complaint, she said she opened the door on hearing a knock at around 3 am on Tuesday.

“A man who appeared to be like a north Indian asked her for water to drink. When she got into the house, the man followed her into the house and tried to molest her,” police said.

However, police investigations revealed that she hadn’t paid the rent for the last four months.

“As the house owner is a north Indian, she had mentioned it to threaten him and avoid paying the rent. Her course gets over by this month and she was likely to go back to her country. No such incident of molestation had happened at all,” police said.  Police are now mulling over initiating action against the woman.
