Tiruchy: Teaching and non teaching staff of the Government Arts and Science College launched a tool down strike at their college premises in the suburb of Thuvakudi near Tiruchy, demanding the arrest of a first year postgraduate student who allegedly attacked a professor with a wooden log.
 
Police said that Periyasamy (23) damaged the cricket bats of other students in the college cricket team, protesting against his expulsion from the college cricket team, after he failed to attend coaching regularly. The college management wanted to take disciplinary action against him and collected signatures from the disciplinary committee members.
 
The head of the Department of Computer Science Prof.Ashok Kumar (47) also signed. Periyasamy allegedly attacked Prof. Ashok Kumar with a wooden log inside the college on Monday and fled. Ashok Kumar was admitted to the government hospital at Thuvakudi. Based on his complaint, police registered a case against Periyasamy and are looking for him, police added.
 
Meanwhile, teaching and non teaching staff of the college resorted to a flash strike on Tuesday, demanding the immediate arrest of Periyasamy.
