The game that defies gravity

Lawbreakers is not just your average criminal vs law enforcer game

Cliff Blezinski and his new studio Bosskey revealed their brand new game at PAX Prime, titled Lawbreakers. As you might imagine the game pits criminals vs law enforcement but it’s not that simple.

Set in the future, the game takes place on earth after an event known as ‘The Shattering’. Too much tinkering with science and nature led gravity to go nuts and destroy Earth; however, unlike most post-apocalyptic games this one is set after humans rebuild everything but, gravity is still messed up. Much like most of today’s shooters mobility is at the core of Lawbreakers with tons of jumping, swinging, flying and wall running. From what I gathered during the reveal, the game is going to be very fast-paced with class-based units.

The free-to-play game from the former lead designer of Gears of War will feature several distinct classes, each with its own set of weapons and abilities. To start things off there is Kitsune, a lightweight lady who packs a mean punch. While she can’t take too much punishment, she makes up for it in mobility and damage output at close range. Next up there is the Breacher, a well-rounded soldier meant for the more “run and gun” style of gameplay.

The Maverick is where it gets fun because she has jetpacks that help her get in and out of combat real quick including a wicked dive bomb-like ability called “Starfall”. The last class we saw was Cronos; a slow moving tank of a man with high durability and damage capabilities with a rocket launcher and bouncing grenades.

What’s great is that the classes are extremely diverse and there are even electric lasso whips, so you’re going to have one hell of a time settling into a rhythm. The free-to-play game is set to launch in 2016, and while I’m usually wary of most free to play titles I choose to put my faith in CliffyB given his proven track record with amazing games.
