Chennai: Following the arrest of two youths in connection with the alleged sexual assault on a six-year-old girl in neighbouring Tiruvallur district last week, the police on Tuesday night arrested a 40-year-old man linked to the incident.
A roadside hawker identified as Kennedy of Periyakuppam in Tiruvallur was arrested on Tuesday night. The police had earlier arrested, Chinnathambi, 25, of Nemmeli in Kancheepuram, and Babu, 35 from Arakonam, Vellore workers in a fast food joint in Tiruvallur.
According to the police, Kennedy lured the class two student playing in the neighbourhood to his house to watch TV with him, a week ago. He sexually assaulted the child. Later the other two joined him.
The girl sustained injuries in private parts. The three threatened the girl not to reveal anything to her family members. But the girl, who was in pain, told her mother about the incident.
She was admitted to Tiruvallur Government Hospital for treatment. The girl was under treatment in an in-patient ward for four days before she was discharged. Soon after the child was hospitalised, Kennedy went under-ground.
The victim’s mother lodged a complaint with Tiruvallur all women police station last Thursday. The police arrested Chinnathambi and Babu the next day. Kennedy managed to dodge the cops for five days but the investigators tracked him on Tuesday night.
