Industry captains to invite Union ministers for Global Investors Meet

For the two-day event, 25 small engineering industries and 107 big companies will be exhibiting their products

ChennaiTop captains of industry based in Mumbai and Delhi want the Centre to be represented at the much-awaited Global Investors Meet (GIM) scheduled here on Sept. 9 and 10.  In fact, representatives from Bajaj and Confederation of Indian Industry had approached the Union minister of state for commerce and industry Nirmala Sitharaman to be part of the Chennai event, where the state government is optimistic of signing business MoUs worth over Rs 1 lakh crore. Industry and state BJP sources confirmed that business captains were wooing saffron leaders to be part of TN investors meet. “Commerce and industry minister was positive towards the invitation and is likely to share the dais with TN politicos,” said industry sources.
 
A better coordination between the state and the Centre was essential for investors and hence the exercise”, the sources said. Meanwhile, the state government would be positioning its entire secretariat staff, including IAS officers, to focus on GIM to make it a big success. “More than a dozen IAS officers are to focus on receiving guests to ensure that they feel at home and a two-hour cultural evening is also planned for the visitors”, said an industries department official. 
 
To ensure speedy arrival and departure of more than 1,000 diplomats and entrepreneurs, special counters and a help desk will work at the Chennai international airport. To make the Rs 100 crore event a hit in digital media, MNCs based in Mumbai and Delhi have been roped in as streaming partner, connectivity partner, knowledge partner, banking partner and travel facilitating partner. For the two-day event, 25 small engineering industries and 107 big companies will be exhibiting their products.
