Kerala government to try out e-stamping

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to bring an ordinance to facilitate the e-stamping system along with the current registration through stamp papers. At the Cabinet briefing, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the proposed ordinance was aimed at amending Kerala Stamp Paper Act 1959.
Without the amendment, the government would not be able to initiate the project even on a pilot basis in any sub registrar office. The announcement on e stamping was made in the 2013-14 budget and the work on the project is on.
E-stamping is being introduced in the state to check stamp paper frauds. States like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and West Bengal have already introduced the system which has many advantages; it can be generated within minutes, cannot be tampered with and its authenticity can be easily checked .
Other decisions:
The Cabinet decided to make Kerala Government Lottery Agents and Sellers Welfare Fund Board as the sole first distribution agency for the state-run lotteries. The services of conditional course teachers would be regularised. As much as Rs 78 lakh has been allotted for Kaduthuruthy Kendriya Vidyalaya. The money is meant for creation of basic facilities for starting the classes.
