KochiThe Kerala State Road Transport Corporation  is  set to introduce flexible ticket rates in its inter-state buses from September 7  for which the state government has given the nod.

“A meeting  of senior officers will be held on September 5 in which the percentage of reduction and the period of implementation will be decided. The aim  is to avoid services running in loss,” said Managing Director Antony Chacko.

The inter-state services like those to Bangalore are currently in demand only on weekends and festive season. The management hopes to woo more commuters by reducing fares during the lean period. “The flexi rates will be implemented mainly on the Bangalore route. The same will also be extended to planned services to destinations like Mumbai, Goa, Hyderabad, Tirupati and Puttaparti,” a senior officer said.
Meanwhile, the KSRTC achieved a record  on August 31 when the daily collection figures touched the Rs 7- crore mark.

“We’d slashed the fares for the Volvo bus services to Bangalore this Onam. We achieved a collection of Rs 7,08,40,029 last Monday. Also the collection during this Onam  recorded an increase of over Rs 1 crore compared to  the corresponding period in 2014,” the officer said.
