Hyderabad: The University Grants Commission (UGC) and Union HRD Ministry are monitoring the Rishiteswari suicide case in Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur in AP treating it very seriously. The ANU has also been severely reprimanded by the monitoring agency of the UGC saying the varsity has made absolutely no effort to implement anti-ragging regulations and that there is possibility of further incidents on  the campus.

The Rishiteswari case has escalated to the UGC for further steps after the action taken report, submitted by the ANU to the UGC Anti Ragging Monitoring Agency, was found unsatisfactory. Monitoring agency head Prof. Raj Kachroo noted in his communication to the UGC, “The level of compliance in the ANU, regrettably, is very poor.

The ANU has made no effort whatsoever to implement the requirements of the regulations. If the level of compliance is low then clearly the college is prone to ragging and there is a possibility of another such incident to happen.”

Architecture student Rishiteswari committed suicide after being subjected to severe forms of ragging on campus in the ANU. The V-CK.R.S. Sambasiva Rao was sacked after the incident.

While Architecture College Principal G. Babu Rao was also suspended.

Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM for inquiry into Rishteshwari case

Deputy Chief Minister, N. Chinarajappa on Wednesday said an inquiry will be made into reports that semi-nude photos of Rishiteshwari were taken.

Chinarajappa, who also holds the Home portfolio, said no one will be spared irrespective of their stature if their involvement is proved in the Rishiteshwari suicide.

He was responding to YSRC members allegations that college principal Babu Rao was being shielded by big leaders of ruling TD.

Rishiteswari’s father wants justice

The alleged ragging and suicide case of B. Arch student M. Rishiteswari once again gained prominence when her father M. Muralikrishna, who was in Guntur on Wednesday, disagreed with the statement of minister for human resources, Ganta Srinivasa Rao.

It may be noted that Mr Srinivasa Rao had denied the involvement of ANU College of Architecture's principal Babu Rao in the Rishteswari suicide case. Mr muralikrishna alleged that Babu Rao was responsible for the increase in ragging culture at the varsity.

Mr Muralikrishna said that he had handed over the second diary of Rishiteswari but the cops showed least interest in initiating action against Mr Babu Rao, one of the prime accused.

Meanwhile, Guntur first additional district judge G. Gopichand postponed the bail plea hearing filed by the three accused senior students in the alleged ragging case to September 3.
